6-year-old boy dies 1 month after being struck by lightning that killed his father
WASHINGTON (TND) — A 6-year-old boy from Texas has died one month after he was struck by lightning while holding his father's hand.
Grayson Boggs, of Valley Mills, passed away early Friday morning, according to a post on a GoFundMe account, which his cousin, Stephanie Burris, said she set up for her loved ones.
Grayson went to be with our Lord and his father at 5:05am today. Please pray for the family at this time. Fly high, sweet boy. #graysonstrong," Burris wrote.Grayson and his father, 34-year-old Matthew Boggs, were struck by lightning while they were "walking down the driveway after getting off the bus" on May 15. Grayson's bother, Elijah, was reportedly with them but was not harmed.
"Lightning came out of the sky without warning, and entered Matthew's body and traveled to Grayson since they were holding hands," according to the post.
The Bosque County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the scene and "determined that the adult male was deceased and the child was unresponsive, but breathing." Grayson was taken to an area hospital, but he died four weeks later.
Burris wrote that Grayson experienced several seizures and was on a ventilator to help him breathe. She said doctors eventually "removed him from machines" and were trying to make him comfortable.
She also noted that his mother "signed the papers to make Grayson an organ donor."
The GoFundMe page -- which raised more than $95,000 as of Monday morning -- said all donations "will go directly to the Boggs family to help with funeral expenses."
The account also noted the family is from Indiana, "but relocated to Texas several years ago."
