London - Boise State grad and defending NCAA decathlon champion Kurt Felix was forced to withdraw from the Olympic decathlon competition Thursday, citing a hamstring injury.

Felix, competing for his native Grenada, posted on twitter Wednesday night, "Hamstring. Did too well in the 400 but still enjoying my experience! just the beginning of great things to come in the future."

He was in 12th place after the first day, just two points out of the top ten with arguably his best event, the javelin, still to come.

Thursday morning, he posted "Bad. Hamstring in hurdle warmup couldn't start!''

According to Michael Bascombe of website grenadasports.gd, Felix sustained the hamstring injury in Wednesday's 400 meter dash.

In March, Felix was forced to withdraw from the NCAA heptathlon national championship with a foot injury.
