The 2024 NFL Draft is just a month away and the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are touted as the favorites to get the top three QB drafts. However, the name of JJ McCarthy has suddenly been taken alongside these three. ‘

A few hours back, the Las Vegas Raiders‘ head coach Antonio Pierce claimed that McCarthy is also a favorite to be drafted early. The Raiders HC gave a reminder that people should not forget that he is a CFP national champion.

J.J. McCarthy you're talking about a National Champ, a winner. So I don't know how he's not in the top three if you want to be honest.
Pierce noted in the NFL Annual Conference

Now, Dan Orlovsky, the former Detroit Lions quarterback, has also pitched in his say on McCarthy. Appearing on the show ‘First Take,’ the former QB noted that JJ McCarthy could be another version of the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

I am a McCarthy fan, okay. I think he is a top-15 prospect. I think he rightly is going to play consistently like Kirk Cousins. As a top 10 or so quarterback, he is gonna go to the top five. I do not know if is there a guy more confident in his abilities with the ball. He makes difficult things look easy, and he is a stone-cold assassin when he has got to be. Stop telling me, he can't throw the ball.
Dan Orlovsky stated

JJ McCarthy’s physique is an issue for the analysts

Despite having some insane statistics in college football, there is one problem that is associated with the Michigan quarterback. And that is his physique. He is six feet two inches tall, however, his weight is a bit less than what he is supposed to be. McCarthy is 219 pounds, and with that weight, the quarterback is considered skinny.

If body weight is the first concern, then the second one is his way to pass the ball. The analysts have raised their eyebrows over his passing accuracy. Though he had a passing completion rate of 72%, the concerns of the analysts are not going away.

Before McCarthy, there was one who faced similar comments about his body weight. His name was Tom Brady. But that did not prevent him from creating history in the NFL. McCarthy can take inspiration from the legendary quarterback if he gets a draft.
