How to complete the Millicent quest in Elden Ring?

Millicent is one of the many fascinating characters that players will meet while exploring the world of Elden Ring. Her questline is one of the many diverging paths from the main plot that players can take. Players can complete her quest to gain some special items that are useful throughout the game.

In the world of Elden Ring, Millicent is a young woman. She is stricken with an incurable case of Scarlet Rot, the infamous curse that is highly associated with the game’s most difficult boss, Malenia. Her quest revolves around Gowry, another NPC in the game, sending the players on a journey to help cure Millicent of her Scarlet Rot.

The quest requires players to traverse great distances and fight various bosses. It is one of the more detailed side quests in Elden Ring, as it involves the Scarlet Rot. The Scarlet Rot has heavy ties to the main plot of the game.

In this guide, players can explore how to trigger Millicent’s quest as well as what steps they need to take to complete it.

Speak to Gowry in Caelid

In order to trigger Millicent’s quest, players have to find and speak to Gowry. Gowry is an NPC in the game and can usually be found in a shack in eastern Caelid. The shack can be found along the road to Sellia, the Town of Sorcery.

Gowry asks the players to seek and acquire the Unalloyed Gold Needle. Players can do this by talking to Gowry and exhausting his dialogue. Gowry then sends the players on their way to retrieve the needle.

Fighting Commander O’Neil

Traveling west of Gowry’s shack, players will come across Commander O’Neil. Commander O’Neil is a Great Enemy boss fight in the game. Located in the heart of the Swamp of Aeonia, Commander O’Neil is the first boss fight in Millicent’s quest.

He is equipped with a battle-standard halberd. O’Neill utilizes his halberd and ghostly summons to pose a challenge to players. However, players can learn his movements and animations to come up with a strategy to take him down.

Defeating Commander O’Neill will grant you the Unalloyed Gold Needle and let you progress in the Millicent quest. Now the players are all set to take the needle back to Gowry.

Visit Gowry twice

After defeating Commander O’Neill, players can return to Gowry with the needle. Hand him the needle and exhaust his dialogue. After his dialogue is exhausted, fast travel to the closest Site of Grace. Rest at the Site of Grace and run back to Gowry.

Gowry will then hand the players the repaired golden needle and tell them about Sellia. Players can then head up to the Church of the Plague to find Millicent and officially begin her quest line.

Find and speak to Millicent

Heading up to the Church of the Plague, players will have to fight the forces of Sellia, Town of Sorcery. The players have to light all of the braziers and beat the area boss in order to progress further.

After reaching the Church of the Plague, players can meet Millicent there. Interact with her and give her the Unalloyed Gold Needle. After doing so, rest at the nearest Site of Grace to reset her dialogue. The nearest Site of Grace to the Church is the Beastial Sanctum.

After exhausting all of Millicent’s dialogues, she will give the players the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom. Receiving this Heirloom wraps up the first part of Millicent’s quest line.

Go back to Gowry’s shack

The next time players visit Gowry’s shack, they will find Millicent there. Talk to her and exhaust her dialogue once. Then fast travel away and run back to the shack to find Gowry there. Talking to Gowry and exhausting his dialogue wraps up the Caelid part of Millicent’s questline.

Visit the Shaded Castle and find the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis

Shaded Castle is a location in the Elden Ring world, in the far north of the map. It is located in the settlement between the Altus Plateau and Mount Gelmir.

Players will have to fight their way through the location, fighting varying sorts of enemies. Players will then come across a room that is being guarded by a Cleanrot Knight. After defeating the knight, players can find the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis item.

Speak to Millicent on the Altus Plateau

When players acquire the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis item and visit the Altus Plateau, they will find Millicent there waiting for them. Players can fast-travel to the Erdtree-Gazing Hill Site of Grace to find Millicent just north of the spawn location. Talking to Millicent and giving her the Valkyrie’s Prosthesis item allows the players to further progress in the Millicent quest line.

Defeat the Godskin Apostle in the Windmill Village

After talking to Millicent, players will head to the north of the Altus Plateau. Here they will come across a location named the Windmill Village. The Windmill Village is filled with enemies and the Godskin Apostle sits on top as the area boss.

The Godskin Apostle is a boss in Elden Ring who can be quite tricky during players’ first few tries. However, learning his moves and attack patterns can provide players with openings to deal easy damage.

After defeating the Godskin Apostle, rest at the nearest Site of Grace. Exiting the resting state at the Site of Grace, players can find Millicent there. Talk to her and exhaust her dialogue. This wraps up the middle Altus Plateau section of Millicent’s quest in Elden Ring.

Speak to Millicent on the Mountaintops of the Giants

Later in Elden Ring’s main story, players gain access to the location called the Mountaintops of the Giants. At this location, players can find Millicent near the Snow Valley Ruins Site of Grace. Talk to her and exhaust her dialogue. She asks the players to collect 2 halves of a medallion in order to progress further. Collecting the medallion halves allow players to access the Haligtree area.

The 2 parts of the Haligtree Medallion are spread across the open world. Players can find one-half of the Haligtree Medallion at the top of Castle Sol. However, players can only collect the item after defeating Commander Niall. Commander Niall is an NPC similar to Commander O’Neil. He is located in the northeast of the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Meanwhile, the other half of the medallion requires players to attack a pot in the Village of Albinaurics. The Village of Albinaurics is located in southern Liurnia of the Lakes. When the players hit the pot, the pot is revealed to be a disguise for an old man. The old man then gives the players the other half of the medallion.

Visit the Haligtree

After collecting both halves of the medallion, players can make their way up to the Haligtree. The players can use the now complete medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold. The lift then takes the players to go down, progressing towards the Haligtree.

After the lift comes to a halt, players can make their way to the north of the area. Here players will have to solve a relatively simple puzzle to move forward. The puzzle is located at Ordina, Lirthurgical Town. Once past the puzzle, players will find themselves at the Haligtree.

Interact with Millicent at the Prayer Room Site of Grace

Exploring the Haligtree area, players will find the Prayer Room. Here, players can rest at a Site of Grace. Right next to the Site of Grace, players can find Millicent. Players can then talk to Millicent and exhaust her dialogue to progress further.

Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit

After talking to Millicent, players can move further into the Haligtree and reach the Drainage Channel Site of Grace. Here players will come across an Ulcerated Tree Spirit. However, this fight with an Ulcerated Tree Spirit is more difficult than the others players encounter throughout the game. This is because the fight takes place in a pond that builds up the Scarlet Rot Status Effect.

After defeating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, players can make their way to the Drainage Channel Site of Grace to rest. Resting at the Site of Grace and then returning to the area of the boss fight, players will find two summon signs in the location: one is yellow and the other is red.

Making a choice and fighting with Millicent

The yellow summon sign allows the players to fight with Millicent and assist her in fighting off invaders. Meanwhile, the red summon sign allows players to engage with Millicent in battle and kill her.

Choosing to kill her does provide players with Millicent’s Prosthesis talisman, which boosts players’ dexterity and damage. However, if players choose the yellow summon sign, the player and Millicent engage in a battle with four NPC invaders.

After defeating the NPC invaders, players will receive the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia talisman. This talisman boosts players’ damage with successive hits.

Return to Millicent twice to finish the quest

After returning to their own world, players can go rest at the Drainage Channel Site of Grace once again. After doing so, players can return to where they just fought the invaders. The players find Millicent waiting there.

Exhaust her dialogue, return to the Site of Grace once more, and rest. Players can then come back to the same area to find Millicent dead. They can loot her body to acquire the Unalloyed Gold Needle. Players can use the needle later in the game to acquire other items. This wraps up Millicent’s quest in Elden Ring.
