Im wide OPEN JaMarr Chase throws his helmet in frustration after the final play of S
The Cincinnati Bengals almost had their hands wrapped around the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVI. But, Aaron Donald and the Rams’ defense pulled them back and destroyed their hope of becoming World Champions for the first time in franchise history.
It was a night of missed opportunities for the Bengals that frustrated everyone on their sideline. The most important missed opportunity for Cincinnati occurred in the last quarter that had wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase wide open down the stretch.
Ja’Marr Chase throws his helmet to the ground in frustation after he wasn’t thrown the ball
The Bengals entered the game with their eyes set on the prize and it was looking like they were set to win the game. However, they failed to score on the 2 interceptions they picked off of QB Matthew Stafford. The offensive line was inadequate in their job to protect Joe Burrow and provide him with a safe pocket. Finally, cornerback Eli Apple somehow forgot to cover Cooper Kupp in the endzone that led to the Rams leading the game with less than 2 minutes left in the quarter.
Still, the Bengals had a chance to rectify their mistake and potentially tie the game. Once again, the offensive lineman couldn’t manage to keep Aaron Donald’s hands off of Burrow. The Bengals needed to convert the fourth down to have the opportunity to score a field goal to send the game into overtime. Rookie WR Ja’Marr Chase was paired with Jalen Ramsey but somehow managed to get free and was wide open down the field.
Joe Burrow did not have enough time to throw the pass to Chase as he got sacked by Aaron Donald. This frustrated Chase to the extent that he removed his helmet and slammed it into the ground. If Burrow had the time to see Chase open and throw the ball, then the outcome of Super Bowl LVI would’ve been completely different.
It was admirable of Chase to get free of the best cornerback in the league. Ramsey gave up the most yards in a single game in his career in the Super Bowl (160 yards). The Bengals’ Super Bowl run condensed down to a whole lot of what-ifs and missed opportunities. Hopefully, Cincinnati Bengals make the necessary changes this offseason and bounce back stronger than ever next season.
