Idaho State Police troopers deploy for 3 week mission to Texas southern border
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Idaho State Police troopers deployed Wednesday morning for a three-week deployment at the southern border in Texas.
Governor Little announced the deployment in January during his State of the State Address. The deployment of Idaho law enforcement personnel aims to accomplish two goals according to the Governor.
The first is to aid Texas law enforcement in the fight against human trafficking across the southern border. Cartels and other bad actors are reportedly taking advantage of the border crisis by trafficking humans, including children, into the U.S.
The second, according to a statement from the Governor's office, is to help Idaho law enforcement gain real-world experience in fighting human trafficking. The experiences and lessons learned through the multi-week deployment are expected to be brought back to Idaho and disseminated to other law enforcement agencies through training.
Two teams of ISP troopers left Wednesday morning after a breakfast sendoff with the Governor. The deployment is reported to last 21 days.
