Police investigate after Baltimore gathering turns deadly
BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A 36-year-old man died following a mass shooting at a gathering inBaltimore, Maryland Sunday.
Police said eight people were shot and injured Sunday evening.
Baltimore police are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting that took place in east Baltimore in a neighborhood known as Oliver after 8 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene they found multiple male victims and one female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. They also found multiple firearms on the scene.
Four victims were found at the scene and four walked into hospitals, police said.
The ages of the victims, that are confirmed, range from 22 to 45 years old, police said. The victims are in a wide range of condition, from critical to stable, police said. The victims were transported to hospitals for treatment.
Police said it is an expansive crime scene and they are speaking with witnesses. WBFF reported that multiple firearms were also found at the crime scene. Officers with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also at the scene.
Police Commissioner Richard Worley said they believe there was a gathering on Spring Street that turned into multiple people opening fire.
I heard the shots then I heard eight more shots, but I was praying it was thunder and lighting,” said George an Oliver resident. “Then I was told eight people got shot and someone passed, one tragedy is too many, so we have to make changes around here.The Mayor's Office is launching a community stabilization effort in the community, according to the City's Chief Administrative Officer Faith Leach.
Mayor Brandon Scott called out the shooting a "horrific act of violence" in his statement.
