The weekend in Michigan was anticipated to be an eventful one. Moreover, the track delivered on its promise of entertainment as an overtime restart saw the pack bunch up together causing a huge wreck between multiple drivers. This wreck unfortunately led to Kyle Seig getting airborne after having contact with Chandler Smith.

Kyle Weatherman brought out the caution with ten laps to go. This caused mayhem to break loose in the field. Multiple drivers faced the dilemma of pitting for fuel or extending their stay out and risking being left without gas during overtime. However, drivers’ fear became true as overtime became a real possibility as the field closed up. This resulted in a clash on the final lap, which saw No.88, 81, and 28 cars being ruled out of the race.

Both Kyle Seig and Chandler Smith‘s race came to an end due to the collision. However, the RSS Racing driver was dealt the bigger blow as he went airborne and his roof scrapped on the concrete. He then further collected the wall before turning him the right way up and landing on four wheels in the in-field. This crash sent trembles among NASCAR fans but the 23-year-old was able to walk off from the crash unscathed.

Justin Allgaier triumphs in the eventful Michigan race

While Seig’s crash was a hefty one, Justin Allgaier claimed victory around Michigan as the late race crash ended the race on the spot. Moreover, this is his second win of the season after Darlington, catapulting him up in the championship.

Subsequently, after winning the race, the JRM driver was full of emotions. He then admitted that he was grateful for the effort made by the team to aid his race as they had a subpar outing in Indianapolis, where he finished ninth. On the other hand, he deemed this win special as it was his 25th career victory and the first one at the two-mile track.

Just cannot say thank you enough to this team and all these guys standing right here. It’s been an incredible week. We did not show up at [the last race in] Indianapolis like we wanted to and these guys have worked tirelessly through this break. It’s truly special, winning at Michigan.
Justin Allgaier said in the post-race interview

Apart from this, the No.7 driver currently stands second in the championship. However, he is only twelve points adrift from the lead. Thus, a second regular season championship is on the line for Allgaier as NASCAR prepares itself for the playoffs in the coming weeks.
