Thanasi Kokkinakis is an Australian tennis player and has won one ATP title each in singles and doubles. His carrer-hingh ranking in singles is No.69, which he achieved on 8 June, 2015.

Kokkinakis had a promising junior career. He ranked as high as No.10 in the junior circuit. The Australian had a remarkable 2013 season, he managed to reach the finals of the Australian Open Boys’ Singles, but lost in the final to compatriot, Nick Kyrgios. In the same year, he finished as the runner-up at the US Open Boys’ Singles. He won a Grand Slam title in doubles with fellow Australian, Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon in 2013.

The Australian made his professional debut in 2013, aged 17. He broke into the top-200 of the ATP ranking within a year of his debut. The subsequent year has been Kokkinakis’ best year on tour till date. He qualified for the main draw of all the Grand Slams in singles, with his best result being a third round finish at the Roland Garros. As a result. Kokkinakis debuted in the top-100 He also contested in Men’s doubles with Lleyton Hewitt and managed to reach the third round at Wimbledon.

After struggling with multiple injuries over the years, Kokkinakis dropped out of the top-200 and only managed to make a full comeback in 2021. He only played in one Grand Slam, which was at the Australian Open, and couldn’t qualify for the main draw of other Slams because of his ranking.

His 2022 season started on a much better note. He reached the semi-finals of ATP Adelaide International, but lost to top seed Gael Monfils in straight sets. In the following week, he won his first ATP singles title at the Adelaide International 2, by defeating Arthur Rinderknech in the finals. He couldn’t carry this momentum into the Australian Open, as he lost in the first round to qualifier Yannick Hanfmann. He had better success in the doubles, where he partnered with Nick Kyrgios and defeated top seeds Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic in the second round. The pair continued their winning run and defeated 6th seeded pair of Micheal Venus and Tim Putz in the quarter finals.

So far there aren’t any reports suggesting that Kokkinakis has a girlfriend. His social media posts also don’t suggest that he is in a relationship as of now. He is completely focused on his career for now, and is looking towards having a good 2022 season after being plagued by injuries for most of his career.

A few years ago, there were speculations that Kokkinakis may be gay but he is yet to come out so this can’t be confirmed. But the Aussie superstar has time and again raised his voice for the LGBTQ community, even at the 2022 Australian Open.
